Classified Ad Sites Will Save You Time And Money

By: John Donaldson

You want to sell your computer, the car, your bungalow or house, the Disney holiday, or the gig tickets for your favourite band. You've got cash flow problems so you want to sell fast, too, like yesterday. Placing the item in the 'For Sale' section of the local newspaper seems like a good idea.

Let's face it, most of us buy the local newspaper to find out what's going on in the area. And, of course, we'll take a look at the personal or for sale columns, too, whether accidentally or intentionally. I mean, it's human nature. We all like to know what is being sold and for how much, even if we've no intentions of ever buying. A minute or two later and the newspaper is tossed away. But just when you really need it, to find the number to call to place an ad, for example, it's nowhere to be found. Sod's law!

Plan 2 - grab the Yellow Pages! Flip through until you find 'Newspapers and Periodicals' and then scan through the list. There it is. Grab a pen, note down the telephone number and give them a call.

A couple of rings later and a friendly female voice asks you politely what department. You reply, "Give me the advertising department, please." Just about there now. You can almost smell the cash. Patience. A few seconds later, another equally friendly voice asks how she can be of help, too. What a friendly bunch. You explain you want to put an ad in for this week, in the 'For Sale' section.

"You want to place an ad in next week's edition", she says, abruptly. She hasn't understood. "No, in this week's edition", I repeat. "Sorry sir, can't do it. If you'd only called half an hour ago. You've just missed this week's advertising deadline, which is always midday on a Tuesday, no exceptions. Do you want to place an ad in next week's edition?"

Silence. I'm thinking. The paper comes out on Friday and yet my ad has to go in on a Tuesday morning. That sucks. It really sucks. I hang up the phone.

Wait, you're not thinking straight here. Is this not the age of the Internet? You know, instant communication, web sites, email and all of that! Panic over. You've seen many classified ad sites on the web, right? Maybe now is the time to seriously look at them, not ignore them.

Open up the browser, go to Google and enter 'classified ads'. Easy, a ton of classified ad sites show up in the search results. So many to choose from.

The scene above may be a simple story but there is a serious point or two behind it. It neatly illustrates one of the very best reasons to consider using freeads sites - instant advertising. No waiting around. No deadlines.

And here's another good reason. Cost. It usually won't cost you anything to sign up with a freeads site. And it won't cost a penny to post your ad either. Post as many freeads as you want, too. Saves a boat-load of cash!

The third reason why you should consider using a classified ads site - there are LOTS of them. Hundreds to choose from. Sign up for one or sign up for 50. It's up to you. And the sign-up process is usually quick and easy. All you need is a valid email address.

Going back to our scenario above, local newspapers typically have a circulation of a few thousand readers, all living within a few miles of where you are. Not so with a classified ads web site, which is the fourth good reason for using them. For they have reach. Your ad will be seen across the world, literally. So you are almost guaranteed to find a buyer for the item you are looking to sell.

If a picture is better than a thousand words, we come to the fifth good reason for using freeads sites - the ability to add a picture of the item you are looking to sell. Most classified ads sites allow you to upload at least one picture to go along with your ad, at no cost, a service which your local newspaper is unlikely to offer.
