So what does it mean when we talk about attaining success through a positive mental attitude? Success through positive mental attitude is one of the governing factors in the "get what you give" dynamics of life. You attract who you are at any given time. I have witnessed my own ability to wreak havoc in my life with my moods (in a negative way) never asking, "how did I achieve that wonderful depression?" And wouldn't you know it, somehow I am able to recreate it with the snap of my fingers. So why is it any more difficult to achieve success through positive mental attitude? Conditioning, that is why. It is amazing how many of us constantly go through life creating speaking and thinking negative affirmations all day long to ourselves, "I always do that, I'm so stupid, etc." causing our ill emotional and mental states and counteracting success through positive mental attitude with an on-going dialog of negative self talk. Yet we have such an aversion to the idea that positive affirmations will have the same impact (but in the desired direction.) Pessimism and negativity are a much more accepted form of self-talk. Your internal dialog affects your perception and experience of life. How you ask a question can determine the answer. Like a well oiled machine, when you ask your brain a question, it looks for an answer,. For instance if you ask "Why did this happen to me?" you will most likely get a number of negative answers generated (you are stupid, or don't deserve that promotion, or whatever), as opposed to "What can I do now to fix this?" which will generate possible solutions and take your life in a completely different direction. Mentally we have been programmed and unfortunately, studies show that negative words seem to have more impact so that instead of success through positive mental attitude we end up with failure through negative mental attitude, depression or lack of drive. We need to learn to verbalize positive words not just the negative. We often punish ourselves for what we view as mistakes, but forget to reward our successes. I heard once that you must always have a picture of your future or else you will replay your past. Your subconscious is something that will believe what you tell it. While you sleep, your subconscious continues to work. We constanty use negative affirmations internally without even realizing it. "Why did I do that again"? "I always do that". "That was so stupid". There are so many things that you constantly tell yourself and your subconscious says "oh, ok, I'll take a note of that, you're stupid". Ultimately we are going to have to learn how to master the subconscious by reprogramming ourselves to create success through positive mental attitude. At some point in my life I realized I was being programmed according to other people's agendas, or the mere accidental circumstances around me. Isn't it about time we decided to take the reigns and program ourselves according to our own agendas? Mold ourselves and our lives by our own design? I for one say yes!
