Shopping for clothes has traditionally been more popular among women than men. But with the availability of this facility on the internet, men have also taken to this trend with good amount of enthusiasm. The reason for this is the convenience and ease in apparel browsing. In the last one year, the time men spent for browsing apparel online has increased by five minutes on an average. In a survey conducted by the British Council of Shopping Centres, men would prefer to do more of their shopping online since it saves them a trip to the local shopping mall. Men usually tend to know what they want and search for it immediately, and more often than not, they find it in no time. By browsing online, they are given a lot of options to decide from, which is the most convenient option for them. Men also tend to spend more money by shopping online. Internet shopping allows men to compare prices at the click of a mouse. Although it is true that women still outnumber men when it comes to online browsing but it is the menwho spend more than women in actually buying clothes. They can get all the information about apparel anytime in the day and can use the web for narrowing down their searches. Another survey states that in a particular month, men spend nearly 58 minutes shopping in the stores for apparel like pants, jeans and shirts, where as they spend 80 minutes doing the same online. This clearly states the trend that men would prefer to go online. While the number of women who browse clothes online has increased by 80% compared to just 40% by men, the number of women who actually buy clothes online has increased by just 0.4% compared to men whose number has increased by a staggering 3.7%. There are many reasons for this inclination of men towards internet shopping for apparels. Some of these are: • They can track down what they are looking for in a very short time. They do not have to look at every item which is what they have to do in a brick and mortar store. This saves them valuable time and causes less frustration as they do not want to waste their time in looking through everything. • They can get many benefits every time they shop online. Different online marts give concessions and free gifts to their customers. There are also varying prices on different websites which allows men to buy their favorite clothes according to their budget. There is also the facility of delivering at the doorstep within one week. • There is no doubt that online stores have a wider collection of apparel as they do not occupy any physical space. Men would prefer to spend just a few minutes on purchasing apparel online and then get back to their work while the product is delivered to them by the store. Men are more like hunters when it comes to online shopping rather than women who are more like gatherers. Since shopping has gone online, it has been the men who have benefited more than women. Although women search more for clothes than men do on the internet, men actually buy more than them. Men have a hunting approach when it comes to buying clothes. They want to find what they want and get it quickly. Therefore the online stores are more popular among them. It also saves them lot of time by not having to visit the brick and mortar store. Men intend to do more shopping online in the future as well. It also allows them to make their purchases discreetly and makes the experience of apparel shopping a lot more comfortable.
