Email marketing is said to be one of the most effective ways to contact new and existing customers. As long as you do not send 'spam', emails are the preferred means of communication for most 'internet friendly' consumers and of course it is both instant and more cost effective. A double opt in list from a list broker is a good way to start building your business, but make sure you always use at least double opt in email addresses otherwise you risk getting a 'spam' complaint. If you have your own email list, then you have already gone through the optin process yourself and so will not be accused of sending spam. A snappy headline is essential as you are competing with many other businesses who are also trying to sell to your prospect. If you only have a second to create enough curiosity for the addressee to open the email, you really need to concentrate on creating an eye catching headline, or the moment is lost and your email will never be opened. Once your email has been opened, you then you need to recreate that curiosity in your opening sentence, so the reader feels compelled to read on. Ask a question, make a controversial statement, offer to solve a problem, tell your own success story and so on. Whenever you make any contact with your prospects or customers, make sure you create desire in your reader to read your offer in full. Make your sentences short. The ideal length of a sentence is 70 characters. Any more than this and you risk your reader losing interest. Keep your lines and your paragraphs short and to the point. This makes it easier on the eye and so your reader is more likely to read on. When writing your email, make sure you always relate the content back to how your product or service will benefit the customer and make their life better. Always ask yourself what problem your offer will solve for your customer, and how their life will be better when they buy your product. Make sure your emails are text only and not fancy graphics or backgrounds. Although fancy emails look great they might take time to load, use up lots of space in your addressees inbox and do not increase sales, so why bother? Emails are a very effective means of communication for the modern day consumer and business owner, but only if you use your email campaign correctly. Getting it wrong could be costly, so bear these tips in mind.
